Nice review. I appreciate that this book touched you deeply but it won’t be for me. I’ve known someone who went to prison for a minor offense and heard how horrible it was for him. However, having been affected by violent crime I don’t think that I would have the ability to read this with an unprejudiced eye so I’ll be skipping it. Thanks for sharing though.

It is quite unusual for a mother to be able to describe her son's ordeals, not to mention composing a book about that. I agree with you that this book needs to be read widely. Thanks for the insightful review!

"I see the story in a more spiritual light: an advanced soul handling a particularly difficult life with dignity and grace. It showed me that how you handle adversity and endure suffering is indicative of the true nature of your character." You have made a nice review of the book making it sound so interesting. I will check it out

This is definitely a book that attracted my interest. I look forward to reading the story of survival and the many lessons we can learn from such an experience.

This is a non-fiction self-help memoir that highlights endurance, courage, and the journey to inspiational living. The book is free on Amazon Kindle and has an inciteful onlinebookclub review that highlighted the best the book had to offer. Congrats @bonniejanehall for the BOTD.

A story of survival and bravery indeed. Even in the midst of everyone failing one's expectation, it is important to always draw strength from within.

This sounds like a very strong read. Not for the casual read, but interesting none the less. Thank you for the review.

This was an excellent review of Reaching the Shore by Davin Jake Douma and Bonnie Jane Hall. It set up the primary premise of the book and the visceral response of the reviewer to the writing and subject content of the book. The review was clear and would certainly encourage readers to consider the book as an unusual and thoughtful rendering of a traumatic event.

An inspiring story of Davin J. Douma's prison journey through his mother's words. This book highlights strength, courage, and hope. I read the review and found it interesting. I don't usually read a memoir, but this one really got me intrigued. Thanks for the review.

Since I am currently researching the prison systems in America, I am fascinated by your review. The idea of having perspectives of both the inmate and his mother leads me to want this on my want to read shelf.

The story of Davin sounds like he not only endured harsh imprisonment for a crime he may not have committed but he also thrived by accomplishing many things while incarcerated. The book sounds inspiring and worth taking a look.

I like the concept of this book.

The American Criminal Justice System is so messed up, but so much of our literature about it focuses on the criminal, and not the family.

Despite being accused of murdsr, this boy is still a child, and his mother is bound to have a multitude of emotions during this time.

I’ve always been a sucker for a good criminal justice story... it sounds like I’ll be adding this to my list.

The hardships of being put into prison and how it effects the person's family, might be interesting to some. I don't think I would enjoy it that much because of the violence and the lack of clarity on a few issues. Thanks for your review.
