As a kid I read to escape. My dads house was gross (dirty) and a toxic environment. I could read a book or two in a weekend. I wouldn’t have to interact with people there so it was a nice break.

At my moms (a safe home) I read for pure enjoyment and love of reading.
Now I read because it’s something I love and it provides me some “me” time. I also set an example for my 5 year old step son.

"I think I like reading because it allows me to hear from people who have something important to say. You can read from the best thinkers no matter where they are or even when. I'm amazed by the fact that I can go to the book store and buy hours of reading material written by someone who lived hundreds or even thousands of years."
- By Scott

I can relate to that. Sometimes reading provides you the change in your daily life and it's kinda escape from reality too. You read different stories, different opinions on sunjects, get to know different facets of a single thing etc. Curious minds are attracted to reading.❤

I absolutely use reading as bibliotherapy. When I am going through a hard time in my life I devour books without too much discrimination about what I'm devouring. Reading is not so much an escape as it is therapy.

When the hard times are not so obvious, I am more discriminating about what I read. It is then just the pure love of the written word that compels me.

Reading to me is a way of relaxing, by emerging me in great storytelling I can get distracted from things going on at that moment, whilst possibly giving me a new perspective on a subject I hadn’t considered yet. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.

I primarily like the emotions that reading can give me. I have never felt such sadness, joy, and adventure as I have through the pages of a fun novel. It does help to escape the craziness of the world as well, and I can destress quite easily through reading.

Escape from reality (singing Bohemian Rhapsody in my head now...)
Relaxation
Knowledge
Pleasure
Curiosity

For most people, its the same reasons over and over again. But who cares? Its still the best hobby in the world. My mother nurtured my love of reading, and after she died, it took me 2 years before I could pick up a book again. The last year has still been a bit of a hit and miss, but I have read 8 or 9 books in the last two weeks and it feels as if I'm home.

Reading a book is like going on an adventure to another time or place. Learning about different cultures. Trying to figure out who committed the crime in a mystery book. I learn a lot from reading.

Reading is a way for me to forget about my stresses and jump into a new world for a while. It calms me and simply makes me happy.

I read for a simple reason, that is "I want to Learn more." What you see, what you do, what you experience and even what you read is a Learning. Also, ignorance is not an excuse. Because, we do always have a choice.

I love to read for many reasons. I like to "travel" without going anywhere. I like learning new things with non-fiction and biographies. I have always enjoyed the written word.

I tend to favor fiction when I read. Though not always of course.

I developed a love of reading a long time ago. I cannot remember if my mother ever read to me as a child (but I have for both of my kids), but I do know that I devoured books on the regular.

One summer I remember even reading every young adult book that they had at my local small town library!

Though the reason I loved reading then, and probably still now, is escape. I had a rather tumultuous childhood and books were a way for me to be someone else and somewhere else. I loved to follow series but I can be just as intense on certain authors as well.

Unlike movies, reading generally serves to gently guide your imagination. Though, the best part is reading, as opposed to visual media, let's you fill in the blanks organically.

It's fun to later see the different perspectives people give the details when you read their reviews and opinions.

I can also credit reading with my level of emotional maturity. It is perhaps the height of empathy that you can learn to feel so strongly for someone or something that simply doesn't exist.

I love traveling, and reading is pretty much traveling but to the most incredible places. It lets me expand my imagination and think of things in a new way, a way I never would have done before.

I love being someone else for some time, seeing how they think, what they think, how they act, its so fascinating and the stories just completely captivate me.
