I love the plot and the way the author relates different characters with their strength is really interesting. Nice review.

The characters sound full of personality, I love books that have realistic characters. I'm not quite into the World War II aspect, since like mentioned in this review, there is loss and sad moments.
Great review.

A time when children played outside on the road and in the bushes! Ah, it makes me so happy to recall my own childhood. This looks like the story of a simpler time. Of how without the channels of communication that are available now, it took news long to travel and it was easier to shield children from the world until a time when they are old enough to participate in it. This is a book I will definitely be reading! Absolutely lovely review!

I like reading a book every now and again that's thoroughly wholesome, and this sounds like it's sure to be that. It sounds like there are quite a few good stories and characters in this book. I like learning about history in this context. Overall it seems like something I would enjoy.

If this story is anything like “Ironbark Hill,” another of the author’s books, I imagine I will love it! The author’s writing is truly poetic, and though the content was somber, the writing style made it absolutely beautiful. Thanks for the review!

Just from reading the first chapter of The River Kids, I was immediately transported into a different time. While I never experienced this lifestyle, I could easily picture how it would be and feel. The writing immediately brought me back to my childhood where we were all carefree and would do nothing but play all the time. My cousins and I loved to play outside and we had a lot of land to play on. This made me imagine how carefree the children were even in a time of such stress and turmoil. It easily portrayed how children don't see things the same as adults. The imagery in this book is fantastic!
