Could you date someone who doesn't read?

Absolutely not... I once dated someone, despite the fact that I knew nothing of his intellect, simply because his name was Arthur Conan Doyle [last name]. He went by Conan. I thought he must be a reader or at least at least the child of someone interested in literature... Come to find out, he had zero interest in reading Sherlock Holmes, let alone anything else, and he as well as his parents were all completely uneducated. Quite disappointing. :/ I don't date anyone now until I know them well enough to know that they at least enjoy reading!

No. I don't mind if they don't read as much as I do, because I read way too much. But if they don't read at all...that's a no no. I have to say that I even broke up with someone because he read a really weird genre of books. Well, I didn't break up with him BECAUSE of that...

It is not possible to read way too much IMHO .... much as I read I really do wish I had more time to dedicate to my books but life tends to intrude

My husband is not a reader. However, he enjoys it when I tell him about the story I am reading. This is very enjoyable for both of us and is a great compromise.

I have found it hard to date a man that doesn't read. It seems like he stops whatever he is doing, sits down and fidgets and keeps glancing at me, making me feel guilty! Then when I stop reading, he settles down, and is glued to the tv. What the heck?? Then I fidget and keep glancing at him, but it doesn't matter!! He is happy!! I dream of finding a man that will read in companionship with me, perhaps cuddling while reading, but I haven't found it yet! I will never stop hoping and dreaming!! That is a wonderful aspect of reading!! It encourages you to dream!

I'm engaged to a man who does not read books. He reads news and science articles, though. We talk about the books I'm reading and shows interest in my hobby. So the fact that he does not read literature has never bothered me. I wouldn't be marrying him if he was a jerk about it.

He paid absolutely no attention to what I had written. A little blow to the ego but so what. We dated for 7 years and finally married. His drive back and forth to the offices and job sites was very time consuming - so I suggested books on tape and got some for him. He is hooked on those and has become an avid fan of several authors and we now discuss books. Funny how things work out.

My fiance does not like to read. It does bother me because in the 8 years we've been together, I keep trying to get him to read stuff so we can discuss it. It is frustrating and I don't understand people who don't WANT to read but I know everyone is different. Luckily, he is intelligent and we can have other discussions
