Poems convey more than what the words say. I enjoyed the first few poems in the sample, when the narrator was yet a child. I won't wonder if the poignant pieces are true to life.

I read the first few poems, and I can already tell this book is just as impactful as you described. I think the sparse words aspect of a poem works really well for portraying a child's mind, so I'm interested to see how it fares as the protagonist grows older throughout the book. A collection of beautifully written poetry that relays the story of an unnamed narrator’s life can be found in the book "Paddle to Paddle" by Lois Chapin. The nice thing is that we can see the sequential series of poems beginning with narrator’s childhood and up to her adulthood. The book appears to be quite interesting.

I like the way the organization of beginning of the poem was laid out from a sort of infancy and smooth progressive events which explains sort of progressive lunacy and tough challenges she had to overcome in order to have some type of life for herself only to a cheating husband and a very dysfunctional family.
