I can't imagine a fourteen-year-old handling a summer job, let alone doing two at a time. I look forward to reading this book. Congrats on BOTD

I like to think elaborate vocabulary is necessary for historical works even when they include fiction. Ambiguity is best avoided this way.

This seems like an interesting plot. Even though Corey is a fourteen year old he seems like a unique and complicated character. I wonder how he faces all the problems on his own. Thanks for a great review.

The violent environment in Chicago must have toughened Corey during that summer.

One thing that is profound for me is the fact that the author also gave a few backstories of Corey and some of the characters that included historical facts, that I found interesting. Congratulations.

This book is about relationships and family. The art of self-conquest is useful in overcoming alcoholism and other forms of addiction. Thanks for the review.

The plot sounds interesting, and it’s intriguing to see a historical novel about a more recent time period, i.e. the 1960s. Given that I grew up in a more rural area, it would also be worth reading to see what kinds of mentally scarring trouble a teenager might get into in a more populated area like Chicago (rural towns and small cities have their own batch of problems). Thank you for the helpful review.

This book is a young adult novel, which seems slightly cliche and unoriginal, so I will not read it. I agree with your rating and I liked your professional review.

Corey Mack sounds as industrious as he is inquisitive. Not many fourteen-year olds will start playing detective to uncover a bank robbery after being severely beaten my a gang. And to think all he wanted to do was save money to buy a special coat. Sounds like a story worth reading.

This is definitely an engaging read portraying what was life like in Chicago in the 1960s. I specifically like how the author has drawn out the issues of crime and alcoholism. Thank you for the detailed review.

I love this book, it really shows that a lot can happen to a fourteen year old when under the influence of alcohol
Thanks for this honest review

Sounds like a fun read mixed with thrilling mysteries. I wish the end wasn't so disappointing, but perhaps it might be a different feeling for me. I'm also interested in the author's elaborate vocabulary, so I'll be checking this one out. Thanks for the review.

I would like to know what it feels like to live in the 1960s having been born in the 1990s. I like narrative with good character development like the one found in Summer in the City.

This book sounds so thrilling. It combines both the issue of relationships and family. It seems life must have been interesting in Chicago during 1960's. I'm definitely going to read this book. Congratulations on BOTD.
