The Dark Tower by Stephen King

Post by scrapcode13 »

Hello hello. Who among you guys already read The Dark Tower series? Until the end? The very end?

I did. And boy I now regret not listening to Stephen King's warning. :x

The series was another work of genius. I was not able to put it down until I turned the last page. But that last page sure made its mark on me. Next time I read another Stephen King I will always heed his warning.

For those that have not read it yet, the story is about a gunslinger. The Gunslinger. Chasing revenge and vindication for his and his father's honor he will do anything and sacrifice anyone. You must read on to find and understand the man that is Roland. You must read on and be swept to Mid-World where the old American west meets medieval society, futuristic technology, Arthurian witchcraft and sorcery, where people are sacrificed for bountiful harvests, trains have wicked personalities, and where the wall between dimensions is thin in places.

Read the whole series.

I guarantee you will not see lobsters in the same way again.

I read some of the series when I was much younger and thought it was great. Maybe its time to revisit the past.

What was Stephen King's warning on this series? I haven't started these yet because I'd heard they're pretty epic and I wanted to have plenty of time to devote to them. Thanks for your review!

Great Series. I kind of gave up on reading when I started highschool. My mother bought me The Drawing of the Three and I have been addicted ever since. I remember waiting for years until the final books in the series came out. I wonder how the books would have gone had Mr. King not gotten into his accident? Quite different I imagine.

I've read the series and a couple of the 'semi-prequels' that he has written.
When it first came out (or maybe when "Wastelands" came out), for some reason i thought it was meant to be a trilogy.

When I had about 100 pages left in that volume, I realized that there wasn't enough space left for the story to finish there.

Like the stages of mourning - disbelief, denial, anger...

I'm very satisfied with the whole run.

This series is my all time favorite. I have yet to find a series that is remotely comparable. Stephen King takes you on an amazing adventure that will stick with you forever. I found myself so wrapped up into the characters and story line it almost seemed like I became a part of the story. You will find tons of connections to many of his other books in this series. I would highly recommend this series over any other any day. I constantly catch myself comparing series to this one. I'm a little concerned about it becoming a television series and/or movies though. I feel like it will ruin the whole story for me. If you are looking for an epic story that will keep you constantly intrigued this is the one for you.

The ending is a little mind boggling, but good, great, grand! I loved what he did with this series. it didn't take me long to read because it was so damn enthralling! I have only read one other series that has captivated me like this, Lord of the Rings. I read that every couple years since I was 6. I do love this Dark Tower series, though, and anyone that is not sure what to read next, whether you enjoy fantasy or not....READ THIS!

I read all of them, over the span of decades. I also remember waiting for years for the next book and the next and the next. I loved the final ending but hated that they were over. I no longer had something to wait for and didn't know what to do. It is an epic tale. that word is used way too often today but I mean epic the way it used to be used. I keep thinking that I will read them all again from the beginning but I can't seem to put together the time (and it takes a lot of time). I do know that once I do find that time, I will love them just as much, if not more. I will also be recommending them to my 11 year old son this year.

I think that is a great suggestion for your son, it sounds like he might be a brilliant young one if he is going to be able to read these books, they are more advanced than Harry Potter so good for your kid!!

Yes! Amazing books that I picked up in my last year of high school, recently went back and read the new one (Wind Through the Keyhole, I believe). My personal favorite among his many works.

I enjoyed The Dark Tower. It is only one book in a series. The journey took decades to complete, but I was content to read, put it down, come back, reread, and come back again. I have complete faith in Stephen King to lead me in a way that I will enjoy as a reader so I am willing to accept whatever he writes even if I don't like the words.

Roland, the main character, is searching for the Dark Tower. He is consumed. As he travels, we are also consumed. His world touches our world in places and Mr. King grounds us in Americana. It is a grand epic poem put to novel form.
I highly recommend this book.

I read the Dark Tower series a few years ago, long enough ago that I remember having to wait and wait for the last books to come out and it seemed an eternity because the series had me captivated. I would like to re-read the series but don't know if I can find the time. I heard that a movie was being made based on the series and I am looking forward to seeing it because I know that Ron Howard can deliver movies that will do justice to the books.
