The Dark Tower by Stephen King
I did. And boy I now regret not listening to Stephen King's warning.

The series was another work of genius. I was not able to put it down until I turned the last page. But that last page sure made its mark on me. Next time I read another Stephen King I will always heed his warning.
For those that have not read it yet, the story is about a gunslinger. The Gunslinger. Chasing revenge and vindication for his and his father's honor he will do anything and sacrifice anyone. You must read on to find and understand the man that is Roland. You must read on and be swept to Mid-World where the old American west meets medieval society, futuristic technology, Arthurian witchcraft and sorcery, where people are sacrificed for bountiful harvests, trains have wicked personalities, and where the wall between dimensions is thin in places.
Read the whole series.
I guarantee you will not see lobsters in the same way again.

When it first came out (or maybe when "Wastelands" came out), for some reason i thought it was meant to be a trilogy.
When I had about 100 pages left in that volume, I realized that there wasn't enough space left for the story to finish there.
Like the stages of mourning - disbelief, denial, anger...
I'm very satisfied with the whole run.

Thank you for the compliment. He is only brilliant when it interests him.Jakerex2004 wrote:I think that is a great suggestion for your son, it sounds like he might be a brilliant young one if he is going to be able to read these books, they are more advanced than Harry Potter so good for your kid!!

Roland, the main character, is searching for the Dark Tower. He is consumed. As he travels, we are also consumed. His world touches our world in places and Mr. King grounds us in Americana. It is a grand epic poem put to novel form.
I highly recommend this book.
