I enjoyed reading the book due to the writer's lucid and descriptive way of writing. Due to the book being historical fiction I loved the fighting scenes and the well-developed plot.

This is an appealing book from many perspectives. First of all, it is a pirate story; therefore, readers get into a world that cannot be related to the way we live today. Secondly, the point of view of this book is from a female character. Thirdly, the main character is just a teenager who lives in an extraordinary reality. I think this book really deserves the 4 out of 4 stars rate.

I couldn't put this book down. It's a fabulous mixture of adventure, action, and even romance. I don't normally find myself gravitating towards pirate stories, but I read the synopsis, the first ten pages, and I knew right away that I'd want to read this one. The plot is great, the characters are remarkable. I just don't see anyone not enjoying this one. A very well-deserved four out of four stars from me.

I enjoyed read this book because it is a pirate story and naturally I like movies like those of Jonny deep. It is exceptionally well edited. What I liked most is that it is historical and I love such books. The characters are greatly developed. I gave it a 3 stars rating and would like to recommend it to lovers o historical novels. I think the cover brings out the picture of the story and it us good looking.

I was not surprised this book became book of the month because it really was up to it. This book is really a very interesting book with an engaging plot. The author's witting style was intriguing. This historical fiction book was just a perfect mix of adventure, romance, and more. I love the fact that the author did a good putiing the right elements of writing just to get is reader hooked and honestly, there was nothing I disliked about this book. This book is suspense filled. I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I love the cover art, I think it gave me a hint of what the book would be about. I will gladly recommend this book to everyone because I really loved it.

Even though I haven't finished reading the book i can say it's a well written and we'll edited one. So far there's nothing i disliked about the book. It's action, crime, romance and thriller mixed into a historical fiction. I would recommend this book to adults who love historical fictions with thriller mixed into it. And for the half i did read i can say the book deserves a full 4 star rating.

The book was a mixture of action, comedy, adventure, and romance. It mirrored Africa and its politics at that time. Therefore, I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars for these positive reasons. I recommend this book to lovers of historical fiction and adventure.

I enjoyed this book very much! I loved that Brandy and her uncle were able to escape from the other pirates and hide in plain sight! I also loved the original names the author used such as Scarlett Mistress, plague, Morning Sun, and the Red Witch for example. This book is a 4 out of 4 stars from my point of view!

First of all, Brandy, Ballad of a Pirate Princess by Dan E. Hendrickson, deserves a round of applause. It was well-written, cleverly thought out, and paid attention to small details. I loved and hated the character of the Scarlet Mistress (Katrina Mooney). She was fierce, brave, tactful, deadly, independent, reckless, energetic, feared and respected. She was a fugitive for many years for killing the king's cousin, who was mean to her. She trusted Captain Eric Erasmus and eventually became his sailing lover. They had a baby, to whom they had to pass down their knowledge and skills in the most outrageous ways possible. Brandy Erasmus, their daughter, literally became their fighting machine. I felt Scarlet overpushed her daughter most of the time, but that was her own style of mothering her daughter and preparing her for the hostile world. Brandy was the daughter of one of the most feared and dangerous sea captains, Eric Erasmus, aka "The Plague." He was a slave owner, and he was selling slaves and intercepting unsuspecting ships with goods and people. The people and goods were sold off by him. That was the life Brandy had known: training, fighting, and preparing for anything unexpected. Brandy knew no other life than the heartless sea life after her mother gave birth to her on the ship "The Red Witch."She was fifteen and on the same ship training in sword fighting with her mother, and she was getting better than her mother. Ironically, when their most feared intruders, man-of-war, Royal Navy warships headed by Admiral Bennets, arrived, they were overwhelmed, unprepared, and outnumbered, and that was the turning point in the story for Brandy. They had to abandon their beloved "Red Witch" as they left the ship behind to fight another day.
The book had some graphic fighting scenes and strong language, but Dan penned this story down perfectly. Each chapter grew more interesting than the next. I can see myself watching this kind of story on a big Hollywood stage or any other big screen you can think of.
Dan deserved a big handshake for the interesting characters in the book. Some of them were Scarlet Mistress, Brandy, Skinner, Lomoche, Davonte, Captain Eric Erasmus, John Edwards, and many more. They all brought lively dialogues and actions to the story, making it captivating and worth reading.
My least favorite parts were some of the gory scenes that were intense, and I wasn't really a fan of such vividly descriptive scenes. What I liked most was how Brandy was swiftly in control of some difficult situations. She was fast and satisfyingly thorough, especially with the one that had to do with her father's betrayal by his first mate, Lomoche.
Scarlet was also a quick and smart thinker, with some foresight that was both her weak and strong suit. I liked Skinner's firmness, thoughtfulness, and restraint. He followed Scarlet's orders even when they were difficult. He had to do some tough and risky behind-the-scenes work to keep the secrets of Brandy and his identities safe by paying taxes or visiting those spreading rumours about them and pointing them in other directions. Or paying them off. I liked Brandy and Uncle Skinner's relationship.
The book was about adventure, sea life, pirates, survival, betrayal, obedience, revenge, slavery, passion, romance, historical events and many more. Dan is a committed writer with a brilliant writing style.
Judging from the book cover, I did not expect the book to be this captivating and enjoyable. The cover didn't do justice to the real content of this book. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and would recommend it to open-minded adventure book readers who don't mind being blown away by the good writing style, unforgettable actions, and suspense-filled book by Dan Hendrickson.

I enjoyed the book. I loved the storyline and all the characters. I liked Zhang the most. He was the subtle comic relief that the story needed and was kind of like the glue that held everyone together. I definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy good historical fiction.
