The book had some graphic fighting scenes and strong language, but Dan penned this story down perfectly. Each chapter grew more interesting than the next. I can see myself watching this kind of story on a big Hollywood stage or any other big screen you can think of.
Dan deserved a big handshake for the interesting characters in the book. Some of them were Scarlet Mistress, Brandy, Skinner, Lomoche, Davonte, Captain Eric Erasmus, John Edwards, and many more. They all brought lively dialogues and actions to the story, making it captivating and worth reading.
My least favorite parts were some of the gory scenes that were intense, and I wasn't really a fan of such vividly descriptive scenes. What I liked most was how Brandy was swiftly in control of some difficult situations. She was fast and satisfyingly thorough, especially with the one that had to do with her father's betrayal by his first mate, Lomoche.
Scarlet was also a quick and smart thinker, with some foresight that was both her weak and strong suit. I liked Skinner's firmness, thoughtfulness, and restraint. He followed Scarlet's orders even when they were difficult. He had to do some tough and risky behind-the-scenes work to keep the secrets of Brandy and his identities safe by paying taxes or visiting those spreading rumours about them and pointing them in other directions. Or paying them off. I liked Brandy and Uncle Skinner's relationship.
The book was about adventure, sea life, pirates, survival, betrayal, obedience, revenge, slavery, passion, romance, historical events and many more. Dan is a committed writer with a brilliant writing style.
Judging from the book cover, I did not expect the book to be this captivating and enjoyable. The cover didn't do justice to the real content of this book. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and would recommend it to open-minded adventure book readers who don't mind being blown away by the good writing style, unforgettable actions, and suspense-filled book by Dan Hendrickson.
