I was able to get a 3rd choice, especially since I knew someone in college with the name. We chose Rowan, who is both a character in Anne McCaffrey's books and Anne Rice (though I did not remember than until after she was born). We thought it was a great original name. Unbelievably, there is another Rowan in the same grade, two that are two years younger, and two more at my son's school. They are a mix of girls and boys too!
Rowan is another name for the mountain ash - it's a very common tree around my area of Ireland and is regarded in Celtic mythology as a fairy tree. I love trees and the Rowan is one of my absolute favourites.

I was named after my dad's first name. I was almost named after his middle name, Wellington. Glad someone talked him out of that.

My sons were all named from the Bible.

We also loved that it was a name for a tree. As we live on the West Coast of the USA, it is not something that grows here. But this spring we found a nursery that could send us seedlings. She now has about 20 seedlings in her Rowan forest.

Not so far. In my house we read a lot but we are also Sci-fi television buffs. We loved the Stargate franchise so much that our dog was named Tayla (Atlantis they spell Telya) while I was pregnant with our first daughter, Adria (SG1 spelt the same) and our second daughter is Kalli (Sanctuary spelled Kali) and last night we debated Takia (SG1, S02E13, they spell T'akaya). If you notice the pattern we did, it's that Amanda Tapping is in all three shows. Apparently we enjoy programs she is a part of.
When you're wrong, your really wrong. When you're right, you're a pain in my a$$.

Wow, great idea! Dellarobia is a pretty name. From The Flight Behaviour by Barbara Kingsolver.

I don't have any children but I probably would. I named my cat Lily after Harry Potter's mum.

I don't personally know anyone named after book characters but I think its a lovely idea if its a character you absolutely love. I think using normal books as apposed to baby name books is a great idea!

You know, I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of naming your child after your favorite characters in books.
I love the idea of it, quite frankly, but always feel compelled to run the other way. I just think that some names are completely out of context for today's world. Having a name like "Khaleesi" is awesome if you live in the world of Game of Thrones, but in suburban America...eh, not so much.
Hermione is a good name... more appropriate-- but super common..
I guess I'll just have continue to use my cool character names for my alts in World of Warcraft :P

Well I don't have any kids  but it's possible that when I have a son someday, I'll name him Dante after a book I read called Dead Beautiful. My name's Sarah, and my mom named me after Fleetwood Mac's song: Sara.

Well my son was named after a name in the Bible. Does that count?
