i got writers block. HELP

Post by Vixen »

You probably won't be able to help me with the actual part I'm stuck on, but
if you know how to get around writers block that would really help.

i know my idea what i want to happen and how i just don't know how to write it. what should the characters say and do to get there.

been trying to figure it out for a week now.

what always helps me is getting a bit enlightened ;) if u know what i mean
Life is not a bed of roses its a valley of thorns twisting and tearing into the strands of time. But, in the middle of every valley their is a river. If you find that river follow it. For it shall lead you to the sea. Then you will finally be free.

I met Debie Macomber once, and she told me that writer's block happens when there is something wrong with the plot or with one or more of the characters. I don't know if it's true, but it seems like good advice, so I would review your entire piece and truly think about the plot and characters.

It may be, that there is something wrong, but it also may be that the plot is waiting on you to figure out what the book should do next, writing as you know is difficult, it requires so much of what you are and so much of what you are not.

Characters are really small parts of you and if you think about that long enough you will certainly question your sanity, quite rightly I might add.

However, it is easy to get stuck sometimes, when perhaps you do not know how to get from point a to point b,

In these situations, sometimes it is best to traverse to another part of the plot, authors often will do this, by moving sideways, into the plot.

Moving sideways can be a good way to bring the depth of what you want while giving the plot time to develop, you can think of it like you would if you were painting a wall, you put a coat of paint on the wall and then you have to wait until the paint dries.

While the paint is drying you might find another related task that you can do that will benefit the project over all and also keep the reader in the place where you want them, (interested).

So you see how I went sideways into the plot of this short post?

Hope this was helpful.

I can't remeber where I read it, but even if you are stuck you should continue to write, working on your story, then with luck it will come back to you. When you edit you can delete or improve on the part that was the toughest.

I've had writer's block sooo many times and it gets annoying lol. The only thing I do is just try to keep writing until something fits. You can always go back and edit things if you don't like it. Just remember what point you're trying to make and put yourself in the character's shoes. What would you do if you were in their situation? What would you say? Things like that. Hope this helps!

Whenever I get stuck, I try to read the work of an author I really admire. Study what they're doing. See what they're leaving out. Relax, and, when you get excited about something, start writing! Also, I think you don't have to tell the readers everything. If it's possible, make a huge leap in the story. Place the characters where you want them to be and worry about it later. Good luck!

This has happened a few times, more recently as I get older. When it occurs, I usually go for a walk with the dog and think of something not actually part of the plot, but nearly, then I try to adapt that thought to fit in the original story, it doesn't of course, but, the process often makes another avenue to follow in your writing, or even a glut of options sometimes, thus negating the problem....
On one occasion, I started another book altogether and scrapped the original...funny old world.

When I get writers block, I just shelve the material and write about something else.

There is so much about life to write about that getting frustrated over a single topic or story really isn't worth your time. Some time in the future you may hit upon an inspirational idea that helps you out a lot and enlightens you on your subject that you previously had not been able to envision correctly.

This is providing of course that it isn't absolutely necessary that you write on your topic within a short period of time.

I guess something is going wrong in your life now, that's why it's hard to think properly now.Just let your mind say what it wants and you'll see that it even helped you
