I like characters like Hrya and Enmiat, Hrya was able to shoulder the responsibility and forsake a life of luxury. Enmiat on the other hand depicts unwavering loyalty by remaining in the queen's sidde throughout the journey. It is a great book. Good read.

Wonderfully thorough review. The queen sounds like a strong, confident warrior. Filling her position will be quite the task to live up to now that she can no longer rule. I’m curious to see how the narrative developed and who of her children will take the reins.

Funny, I think the statement about women being warriors shouldn’t have to be said out loud. It must be that women are just assumed to be great at many of the same things as men. Everyone deserves to make their own choice.

I was thinking along these same lines while reading that part of the review. Maybe someday it will simply be fact and not a statement that needs to be reiterated. Until then, any good reminders of all that one truly possesses (as well as takes on) as a woman can be wondered upon and enjoyed.

It is for those reasons that I am curious about this book. Aside from being female-focused, it also plays with some themes that I always go for (family, love, lighthearted humor peppered into serious affairs, etc). I don’t dive into the fantasy genre much (maybe more so as a kid, not as much as an adult), but this may be a good one to try.
