For a few years, I've read two or three books at once: an audiobook, a physical copy of a novel, and sometimes a non-fiction teaching book. This week, I kept going with my audiobook and novel and then tacked on another novel (an ARC I'm reviewing for this site.) Turns out there's too much fiction all at once.

I can have two or three novels going at once. If/when I do, it's usually the case that one of them is historical while another is contemporary. I've found that I don't do well with two historical mysteries under way simultaneously; no matter how different the eras (i.e., ancient Rome and turn-of-the-century Paris), that gives me a hard time keeping track of what's what and with which book. Contemporary settings, on the other hand, are easier for my brain to process - as long as the type of story differs. So if I'm in the middle of a police procedural and start a romantic suspense novel, that'll be fine.Anxious Educator wrote:What's your guys' limit to how many you can read without getting mixed up? I found my limit this week.

Nonfiction, though, tends to be just one at a time. But the nonfiction choice somehow never interferes with the novels ...
