I appreciate your thoughtful review of Shine. I agree that Rochelle Brandon’s guidance is both empowering and practical, especially with her use of relatable exercises like diaries and self-portraits. While the book might be a bit long, its wisdom is valuable, and adding it to school libraries is a great idea.

Really insightful review! I can see how the book's focus on building self-confidence and providing practical exercises like journaling would be helpful for young girls. It’s also interesting to consider how this book could be useful in a classroom setting.

This book would have been very handy during my teenage years. Even though it's more focused on girls I think boys can benefit from reading it too. The author's use of self-portrait, diaries and notes is a good way to keep teenage girls interested. I remember having posters and secret diaries as a young girl. Well done

I appreciate your thorough review of Shine. It’s great to hear that Rochelle Brandon’s advice is both empowering and practical, especially for helping teenage girls navigate the challenges of adolescence. Your point about the book's tone being soothing and inviting really resonates with me, as I think that’s a crucial element for young readers who may feel overwhelmed by their internal struggles.

I also found your mention of practical tools like diaries and self-portraits insightful. It's true that many teens find comfort in expressing their thoughts and emotions through writing and art, so incorporating those exercises seems like an effective way to help them build self-confidence and self-esteem. The idea of including this book in school libraries or classrooms is spot-on, especially since, as you mentioned, boys can also benefit from these lessons.

On the other hand, I can see how the length of the book could be a drawback for younger readers. Your suggestion to shorten it by about 25% seems reasonable, and adding some visuals could make it more engaging for teens. Thanks for the balanced review—I can see why you gave it four stars despite the minor flaws. Shine seems like it could be a valuable resource for teens and educators alike.

Great review! This is a good book for teenagers to read. Unfortunately, all the girls are grown, so I’ll pass on this one.

As a teenage girl myself, I cannot recommend Shine: Unleashing Your True Self enough. This book has truly changed my perspective on self-worth, confidence, and authenticity. The author's personal experiences and anecdotes make the concepts in the book relatable and easy to understand.

What I love most about Shine is that it not only teaches you how to love yourself, but also provides practical tips and exercises to help you unleash your true self. The book encourages you to embrace your unique qualities and talents, and empowers you to be unapologetically yourself.

I found myself nodding in agreement and feeling inspired after every chapter. This book has helped me become more confident, self-assured, and proud of who I am. I highly recommend Shine to any teenage girl looking to discover and embrace her true self. It will truly change your life for the better.

It focuses on how teenage girls often struggle with their self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-efficacy, and how the book offers practical tools, such as journals and self-portraits, to help them process their emotions in healthy ways.

Non fiction, self-help books are not my cup of tea but the book sounds very useful. Teenage years is the most vulnerable age so improving your self-esteem, cultivating positive thinking, and overcoming fears is really valuable. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

How suffering from the torment and emotional turmoil that comes with adolescence is nicely described in the book "Shine" by Rochelle Brandon, MD.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

I enjoyed your review, Rebecca! I sampled a few opening pages, and I agree that this is a very useful book for teenagers, of any gender, as they battle through the often self-deprecating adolescence. Self-esteem is the opening concept of this book, and I adore Rochelle for having taken the thought and the care, and invested the time, to help teenagers to build their self-worth and self-esteem.

The book is mainly aimed at teenage girls. It will help them navigate the challenges that can lead them astray due to a lack of support setup. Most of which is closely applicable to generally all kids in the said age group. Saving the book for a future read.
