I enjoyed your review. I wonder how Jamaica was back then. My husband and I went there in the 90s, and we were very disappointed. You couldn't go anywhere without people begging you for money or trying to get you to buy weed. They also warned you not to go wandering off by yourself. Always have a couple of people with you, as they will beat you up and steal your valuables. Anyway, the book sounds interesting, and perhaps I will pick it up and give it a try.

From a regular girl living in England to a minister's daughter living in Jamaica. Monica certainly had a big shift in her life. The plot is unique and interesting, and I would recommend it. Congratulations on BOTD.

Monica Carly's exquisitely written book Island in the Sun eloquently describes her early years in Jamaica, 1948–1954. The book highlights the difficulties and joys of adjusting to a new culture by contrasting life in Jamaica and England. Carly's vivid, detailed writing vividly captures the lively cuisine, multicultural population, and stunning scenery of Jamaica, creating an immersive and captivating story. Personal photos are included, which gives this touching and perceptive tale even more dimension.

Beautifully written with details that pull you in right from the start, today's BOTD is a memoir in which the author shares her experiences growing up in Jamaica, after emigrating from England with her family. This sounds perfect for readers interested in culture, history, and life changes. Thank you so much; I loved your review! :-)

The review is organised. Moving to a society and culture that is far from yours is an adventure and can be a cause for anxiety and confusion. It is nice that the book combines pictures with the story to make the imagination more effective. Congrats on BOTD

Being from a family of a minister would hold a lot of moral responsibility and I wonder what life would be like in Jamaica for them.

The memoir appears to provide an account of growing up in postwar Jamaica through the eyes of an English migrant child. The glimpse into this era's way of life seems to spark fresh interest in and understanding of Jamaican history.

I can clearly review that Monica Carly's memoir is a delightful journey through her formative years in Jamaica. With elegance, she recounts her experiences growing up on the island, surrounded by loving family, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. The author's writing is educative conjuring the sights, sounds, and scents of 1940s and 1950s in Jamaica. Her stories of family traditions, good ol’days and cultural celebrations are both entertaining and poignant.
"Island in the Sun" aswell provides valuable historical context, shedding light on Jamaica's post-war development and social dynamics.

Island in the Sun by Monica Carly is truly an amazing book about her childhood memories in Jamaica. This book made me want to reminisce my childhood memories in particular places I have been before, whether there's good and some sad memories. Monica Carly is not only telling a story about part of her life but she is also sharing something that most readers might relate to. I'd love to share this book to my close family and friends. ❤
