I wouldn't say that it resembles anything in real life. That would be like saying that an author who dreams about vampires and then writes his or her story must be a vampire or someone in their life is. It was a dream that had excessive creative overtones in it. Think of this dream as someone watching a movie, and I was the movie goer.
I just follow what a lot of doctors has said, Dreams (especially horrible ones) Resemble a cruel or frustrating thing that has made you paranoid or a unforgetable segment or happening. I know it's happend to me quite a few times.

While this is sometimes true, dreams can also be a manifestation of your imagination, or they can simply be based on something that you read or watched, even if it was days or weeks ago. I'm a huge Dexter Fan, and I've read some pretty creepy stuff that I wish I hadn't, but its still will me. I really don't appreciate the implication that anywhere in my reality something like this would happen. Sometimes dreams are just dreams. Think about all of the horror authors out there...do you think their lives resemble what they write?

The only thing that really comes to mind is the person you can never tell me to stop talking about, Stephen King. Like I have said before, the things he writes resembles the scares he has encountered in real life.

Jacob, check out my review of Serial by Kilborn and Crouch. And then decide if it is something that you want to read. http://booksbyessie.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... ory-ive-ev er.html

Must say, the read was great.

I admit, I'm inspired by my dreams a lot. This Can sometimes be not such a good thing, since I have an overractive imagination!

Reading books, magazines, short stories. I'm a member of a writing community where I do a lot of collaborative writing with many of the members there. We have some stories that started out small and grew to become entire continents and then worlds. Much of my inspiration comes from just being able to write with other creative people.

The good writing of others inspires me. I think it's probably some kind of insecurity about my own insignificance that makes me long to touch others with words the way I have been touched. I suppose I hope that if I can write well, my life will have more meaning.

Those are all good ideas. I blog a lot too and that does help one's writing quite a bit.

Some intense emotion like when I am super happy or when I am in deep loneliness, any extreme emotion inspires me to write.

I didn't know if it was just me, but I tend to people watch and interact in grocery store lines even right down to my friends babbling on the phone about their drama or being at my kids birthday party and watching children having a good time talking about eight year old things...and a simple word will bring an AHHAAA! moment for me :) For those who may need jazz, candles, a quiet space, to sit in a tree, or maybe even an internet cafe... what inspires you when you write or when you are trying to find your spark again, please share. It could inspire someone :D
