Which book?

Pride and Prejudice is my fav book, as well as the movie by BBC. Not the american version. Austen has changed the face of women literature. She showed women as witty human beings.

In 2008, BBCTV made a series "Lost In Austen" starring Jemima Rooper. It is set in modern day about a woman, Amanda Price, who discovers a portal to "Pride and Prejudice" in her bathroom and travels back to that era. She changes places with Elizabeth Bennet and experiences a lot of romantic, funny and very Jane Austen-ish adventures, including falling in love with Mr Darcy, complete with a wet shirt scene. I really enjoyed it!

Also, I was given a book to accompany Jane Austen's works called "Jane Austen's Guide To Good Manners" and it's filled with advice on how to pay a compliment, play charades and how not to make horrible social blunders. It's a very clever little book.

I personally wasn't impressed by "Lost in Austen"; it turned out to be something completely different from what I had been hopefully expecting and at times it was a little too vulgar for my taste. But then again, I have never been fully satisified by any screen production of "Pride and Prejudice". It's my favorite Austen novel and I can be rather picky about it.

My second favorite Austen novel is "Northanger Abbey", which I feel is one of Austen's most overlooked novels. I found it vastly clever and sweet in a way that was unusual compared to Jane's other works. And I liked the innocence and vulnerability of Catherine.

An old story, a newer version, both portray a romantic comedy-of-errors.

Pride and Prejudice is my favourite by Jane Austin. The BBC tv version made in the 90's starring Colin Firth is the best production of it ever made. Emma is my second favourite book followed by Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
