Are you sure that you can eat the clams that you ahve picked up on the beach? I think they cook some special clams for us.

Everyone here eats these, most people just pry them open and put lime juice and salsa on them and that cooks them but I dont like them that way. I opened them and cleaned the bad looking stuff out of them and cut everything else out and I found a recepie to make clam soup in a crock-pot and dumped everything in it, it cooking now. What I was wondering if you are only supposed to use certain parts or what. I used everything. I hope I did it right, I dont want to poison myself or anything like that. I could sure use some suggestions from some of you expert cooks out there.

One thing that is very wrong with eating clams of the beach is that they get a lot of sand in them and it's very very hard to clean out. You also obviously want to make sure all the clams were alive i.e. closed tightly when you tried to open them.

The only way you'll get poisoned is if one or two have been dead a while or you happened to get some off the coast of New Jersey (I'm allowed to say that, I live here).

If you did happen to eat a bad clam I advise you carry a bucket in to the bathroom with you. Both ends at the same time mate just another of gods little joys.

Thanks for the advice. They were alive when I got them, I had them in the refergerator for a couple of hours before I cleaned them, so they were ok. I ate some soup last night I made and no ill effects yet. Everyone here eats them so they should be ok.

I wouldn't recommend you to eat these clams, because you can have some kind of unknown for you allergic. So it can be rather dangerous to eat them. But the best variant is to eat them fried and drink a lot of alcohol.

Ive been eating the soup I made for a couple days now, but frying them sounds like a good idea. Especially the alcohol part. If I get any more Ill get loaded before I eat any.

I concur, a lot of alcohol makes everything better.

It was from a crock-pot recepie, I used milk and potatoes and it called for saugsage but I didnt have any so I used chorizo instead, celery onions salt and pepper and I dumped the clams in. I let it cook for about 6 hours in the crock-pot. It came out pretty good.

sounds like a great New England Clam chowder to me.............the red one w/tomatoes is called Manhattan clam chowder, I love them both...

another clam dish is w/thin pasta ( linguini ).........add garlic, basil, olive oil, etc...........it's very basic but delicious...
very popular in Italian restaurants...
