I absolutely love historical fiction novels and this one sounds SO, SO good! The sample grabbed me right from the prologue and I will definitely be putting this on my 'need to read' list! The hunt for the missing heirlooms sounds long and, perhaps, even dangerous, which adds to the mysterious nature of the whole story. Can't wait to read this one!

Thank you for the review! I read the free extract on Amazon and the history, politics and philosophy expressed was intriguing. Regarding the next installation that you mentioned (hopefully you'll find answers to the cliffhanger!), how many books will there be in this story?

Oh, I am jazzed about this book now! From your review, there's nothing to dislike and everything I enjoy about good, well-researched historical fiction. By the way, your review is one of the best-written ones I've read in a while. The "firm hand" and "silk glove" sentences we're lovely and if I enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed the review, I'm sold. Thanks!

I usually am not interested in historical fiction. But this looks like an extremely intriguing story; will perhaps give this one a shot. And your review is impressive, you have a very striking writing style; I like it :tiphat:

This makes me want to pick up the book immediately. I love that there's that functionality about looking up words; that's particularly useful for a book on French history!
I'm a bit hit and miss with historical fiction (and eclectic as I love Alison Weir, Phillipa Gregory and Diana Gabaldon) so I tend to rely on recommendations when branching out to new authors and this one definitely seems worth it. I'll add it to my 'Want to Read' immediately!

Not a big fan of historical fiction to be honest, but I would give this a try! You make it sound so interesting and suspense filled in your review, and I really love suspense. All in all, I'd read this if I get the chance. Thanks for the review!

Thank you for the in-depth review. I really admire French literature and history. The novel looks really interesting in terms the epoch it features and the mystifying plot it revolves around.

The Crimson Heirlooms is one of the best-written historical novels I've ever read.
Wow. High praise indeed! This sounds like it would be a really cool story to read but I will probably have to wait for the second in series so I can read all the way through without that dreaded "cliffhanger" hangover!!! LOL

Anyone wishing to learn the history of a people should never ignore historical fiction like this one.
I have enjoyed reading this review and it is an opportunity to learn one or two things about ancient France.
Thanks for the review.

Great review. Historical fiction isn’t my genre, but this sounds like a very well written and well-researched novel.

The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were eventful times in French history. It's impressive that the author portrays it so vividly and accurately, to the point of making you feel like the book could be a historical manuscript. That's skill!
This post was brought to you by the word "specifically".

I am not a fanatic of history base books. However this one is interesting and I have enjoyed reading the sample. I just love the character played by Xavier. It explains more about children who lack biological parental care and love. The challenges they encounter while living with foster parents. Though Xavier faced difficult moments with his foster parents, he was always strong, courageous, determined and hardly gave up.

Awesome review. It takes talent to be able to draw the reader in to that level. It's just too bad I'm not a fan of historical fiction or I might would pick this one up.
